Correlation-Based Amplitude Estimation of Coincident Partials in Monaural Musical Signals

چکیده
This paper presents a method for estimating the amplitude of coincident partials generated by harmonic musical sources (instruments and vocals). It was developed as an alternative to the commonly used interpolation approach, which has several limitations in terms of performance and applicability. The strategy is based on the following observations: (a) the parameters of partials vary with time; (b) such a variation tends to be correlated when the partials belong to the same source; (c) the presence of an interfering coincident partial reduces the correlation; and (d) such a reduction is proportional to the relative amplitude of the interfering partial. Besides the improved accuracy, the proposed technique has other advantages over its predecessors: it works properly even if the sources have the same fundamental frequency, it is able to estimate the first partial (fundamental), which is not possible using the conventional interpolation method, it can estimate the amplitude of a given partial even if its neighbors suffer intense interference from other sources, it works properly under noisy conditions, and it is immune to intraframe permutation errors. Experimental results show that the strategy clearly outperforms the interpolation approach.

Frequency, Phase and Amplitude Estimation of Overlapping Partials in Monaural Musical Signals
A method is described that simultaneously estimates the frequency, phase and amplitude of two overlapping partials in a monaural musical signal from the amplitudes and phases in three frequency bins of the signal’s Odd Discrete Fourier Transform (ODFT). From the transform of the analysis window in its analytical form, and given the frequencies of the two partials, an analytical solution for the...
متن کاملSinging Pitch Extraction by Voice Vibrato / Tremolo Estimation and Instrument Partial Deletion
This paper proposes a novel and effective approach to extract the pitches of the singing voice from monaural polyphonic songs. The sinusoidal partials of the musical audio signals are first extracted. The Fourier transform is then applied to extract the vibrato/tremolo information of each partial. Some criteria based on this vibrato/tremolo information are employed to discriminate the vocal par...
متن کاملMonaural Source Separation from Musical Mixtures Based on Time-Frequency Timbre Models
We present a system for source separation from monaural musical mixtures based on sinusoidal modeling and on a library of timbre models trained a priori. The models, which rely on Principal Component Analysis, serve as time-frequency probabilistic templates of the spectral envelope. They are used to match groups of sinusoidal tracks and assign them to a source, as well as to reconstruct overlap...
متن کاملSource Separation and Analysis of Piano Music Signals Using Instrument-specific Sinusoidal Model
Many existing monaural source separation systems use sinusoidal modeling to represent pitched musical sounds during the separation process. In these sinusoidal modeling systems, a musical sound is represented by a sum of time-varying sinusoidal components, and the goal of source separation is to estimate the parameters of each component. Here, we propose an instrument-specific sinusoidal model ...
متن کاملResolving Overlapping Harmonics for Monaural Musical Sound Separation using Fundamental Frequency and Common Amplitude Modulation
In mixtures of pitched sounds, the problem of overlapping harmonics poses a significant challenge to monaural musical sound separation systems. In this paper we present a new algorithm for sinusoidal parameter estimation of overlapping harmonics for pitched instruments. Our algorithm is based on the assumptions that harmonics of the same source have correlated amplitude envelopes and the phase ...
